July 1, 2007 - Ganako Secondary School, Karatu, Tanzania

Ganako Secondary School labs have been started but
there is a long way to go before they are complete
Ganako Secondary School Form 4 students will this year write the first "O" Level Exams in their school's history. However, for these pioneers to stand a chance at their Science Exams, they need laboratories and the equipment needed to sit the practical exams. The school has started building the labs, with the help of parents, but there is still a long way to go before they are completed.
Ganako Secondary School is also in desperate need of a girls' dormitory. There are 540 students at Ganako, half of whom are girls. Mama Lulu says about 100 of them do not have family who live nearby, so they either live with friends, or are renting small rooms and working on the side to pay for school. The school has started the building but, again, has insufficient funds to complete it at this time.
